President Honors Troops for Haiti Service
President Barack Obama recognized nine military members along with other federal, state and nongovernment relief workers here today for their service to earthquake-ravaged Haiti. “Today I want to thank all of them for leading a swift and coordinated response during one of the most complex humanitarian efforts ever attempted,” Obama said. “I think you represent what’s best in America, and I could not be prouder of the response that all of you engaged in during this humanitarian crisis.” Read more

168,000 DoD employees may transfer to new pay systems by September
The Defense Department hopes to move as many as 168,000 employees out of the National Security Personnel System and back to the General Schedule between May and September. John James, the new director of the NSPS Transition Office, said in an interview today that transitions will begin in May, after all Defense offices with NSPS employees finish upgrading their information technology systems to handle the switch. James said between 50 percent and 75 percent of the roughly 225,000 NSPS employees will be transferred this fiscal year. Read more
Agencies finding it hard to follow through on open government order
The first steps were easy: Most agencies met the first deadline of President Obama's December directive to launch open government Web sites within 60 days. Agencies were also required to post three high-value data sets in an easily accessible format; the two dozen agencies tracked by the Office of Management and Budget all met this requirement, too.
