New Washington Headquarters Services Director Selected

Thomas (Tom) M. Muir is the newly appointed Director, Washington Headquarters Services, effective April 15, 2019.  He will manage the organization's $1.2 billion budget and its nearly 2,300 civilian, military, and contract employees providing a vast portfolio of complex and integrated operational services supporting the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, the Military Departments, Defense Agencies and Field Activities, Congress, and the White House.

Mr. Muir comes to WHS from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) where he served as the Associate Executive Director for Acquisition Program Support (APS).  Under his leadership, APS provided a full range of mission support services and operations focused on acquisition workforce professional development and credentialing, VA supply fund and revolving fund management, human resources, business transformation, and emergency preparedness.  Mr. Muir served nearly nine years at the VA in various senior leadership positions in addition to serving as the SES Director of the National Operations Center for the Department of Homeland Security.

Mr. Muir retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel with 26 years of service, to include key command and staff positions in the U.S., South Korea, and Germany and combat and peacekeeping operations in Panama, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Kosovo, and Kuwait.
