WHS Spearheads DoD's CFC Campaign and Gives Hope to Those in Need

Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) coordinates the annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) fundraising efforts across the Department of Defense. This year, the CFC season will run from September through mid-January, impacting the lives of people all over the world.

In 1961, President John F. Kennedy formally established the federal government-wide effort that has become the world’s largest and most successful workplace giving campaign, serving over 4,000 nonprofit charitable organizations worldwide. The charities supported through the CFC range from emerging community groups to large, well-known charities. Since its inception, CFC has raised over $7 billion for charities benefiting those in need.

WHS plays a critical role in the orchestration of the CFC each year, ensuring the success of the campaign by providing training to campaign managers, coordinators, and keyworkers throughout the Department, as well as organizing special events and charity fairs to encourage participation and giving. As Deputy Secretary of Defense, the Honorable Ashton B. Carter, stated at this year’s DoD CFC Kick-off event, “the people of the DoD have an incredible capacity for service” and are “the type of people who serve the rest of humanity hoping to be part of something bigger than ourselves.”

The theme of this year’s CFC of the National Capital Area, “Make it Possible,” is a reflection of the WHS and DoD-wide dedication to service. This year, WHS has established a fundraising goal of $180,000 and the DoD National Capital Region goal is $12.5 million. More information regarding the 2013 CFC can be found on the CFC website.
