Financial Planning During Civilian Furlough

NAVY Federal Credit Union

As we approach the deadline for legislation to be enacted to prevent sequestration and resulting furloughs, our members may be uncertain about their future finances. Navy Federal will be offering support through the following methods:

  • Penalty-free early withdrawals of certificates
  • Checking Line of Credit (LOC) at 3.00% APR
  • Loan assistance (e.g., credit card limit increase, loan extension)

Pentagon Federal Credit Union

Pentagon Federal Credit Union will be providing the following services for furloughed employees:

  • Members may skip a payment for all loans except Real Estate Loans
  • Members can request a one month due date bump during each month the furlough continues
    • Interest will continue to accrue on the loan
  • Pentagon Federal Credit Union will offer a Debt Consolidation loan
  • Pentagon Federal Credit Union will offer a Furlough Loan Product available for up to one month's net pay for a maximum term of 12 month at 7.99%

Fort Meade Community Credit Union

The Fort Meade Community Credit Union is in the process of formalizing its plans to assist all members that will be affected by the possible sequestration. Potential service offerings include:

  • Re-financing to lower payments
  • Advance due date options
  • Short-term loans to assist with changes in income

To qualify for any of the above services, members must verify that they are employed by an agency that has been identified as being furloughed.

Belvoir Federal Credit Union

When the government furlough does take place, Belvoir Federal stands at the ready with their members and will support them with the following services:

  • Emergency Loans
    • Borrow up to $5,000 at a fixed rate of 4.99% APR (0% APR for the first 60 days)
    • Maximum term is 12 months
    • Members may defer their 1st payment for 60 days
    • Existing direct deposit to a Belvoir Federal account is required
  • Loan Workouts: members may work with a loan officer to determine if a loan workout program can be created to help ease financial hardship
  • Skip-A-Pay: skip a regular consumer loan payment at no charge (member must contact us prior to skipping a payment)
  • Financial Coaching: receive free guidance on how to handle finances during the furlough
