Stabilization of Area for Establishment of Turf & Meadows

Work is ongoing to ensure the land can support the growth of turn grass on the main sites and meadow mixture on the parking lot and gas station parcels. Due to the late removal of the infrastructure from the parcels, a temporary stabilization mix is being applied. Additional reseeding will be completed in spring 2014.


Verification Process

Verification process using ground penetrating radar to ensure that all man-made improvements have been removed is ongoing.


Restoration of the Land

Work is continuing at the Navy Annex building, parking lot and gas station location to return the land to its natural contours, which involves bringing in backfill to establish proper sloping and runoff management controls.


Underground Infrastructure of the Navy Annex

Actual demolition of utilities servicing the facility has begun, and is anticipated to be completed by mid August.

Demolition of Wing 2 Outer Shell

All of the interior demolition work is done on Wing 2 of the building. Demolition of the outside shell has begun, and is anticipated to be complete by mid to late February 2013.

All associated demolition work on Wing 1 was completed ahead of schedule on January 15, 2013.


Parking Parcel Work Well Underway

The primary parking surfaces of the parking parcel on Columbia Pike were removed. Removal of the man-made improvements from land formerly occupied by the parking parcel and gas station is progressing well.

December 2012

First Visible Signs of Ongoing Demolition Work

A fence has been erected around the primary parking parcel on Columbia Pike and the former gas station area. Work has begun on the removal of the parking surfaces in the Navy Annex parking lot by milling the pavement in preparation for removal of all of the man-made improvements from the land.


Demolition of Wing 1 Outer Shell

All of the interior demolition work is done. Actual demolition of the outside shell has begun, commencing with Wing 1, and is anticipated to be complete by late January to early February 2013.

November 2012

Meeting Held to Address Community Questions and Concerns

On November 15, 2012, Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), along with all stakeholders and partners, held a Navy Annex Demolition Community Meeting to provide further details of the project plan and address any concerns expressed by residents of the Foxcroft Heights community. WHS remains committed to providing the latest information to the community throughout the project's duration to minimize inconveniences to residents.

August 2012

Navy Annex Demolition Contract Awarded

Throughout the project's duration, relevant information and updates will be posted to the Navy Annex Land Transfer website, to include a demolition schedule. In addition, ongoing outreach efforts will address questions and concerns from members of the community.
