PROJECTS

Wedges 2 through 5 - Wedges 2-5 is a phased design/build renovation of 4 million square feet of space in the Pentagon. The project brings all remaining un-renovated areas of the building into compliance with modern building, life safety, ADA and fire codes. Work includes removal of all hazardous materials, replacement of all building systems, addition of new elevators and escalators to improve vertical circulation, and installation of new security and telecommunications systems. Renovated spaces will be modern, efficient, and flexible. The project, underway since September 2001, is on an accelerated schedule for completion in December 2011, three years sooner than originally planned.

Information Management and Telecommunications - Separate but related to the Pentagon Renovation Program is a necessary modernization of the building's information management and telecommunications infrastructure and systems. IT modernization
The Network Systems Management Center monitors computer
network traffic in the Pentagon.

Swing Space - To keep the Pentagon operational at all times during renovation, one-fifth of the building's 25,000 occupants must be relocated to swing space, temporary office space in and around the Pentagon. The vacated "wedge" of the Pentagon is then sealed off for demolition and abatement. Swing space building
Over 1 million square feet of external swing space was built-out in nearby
Rosslyn and Crystal City. Over 45 floors of office space had to be connected
to the Pentagon's voice and data communications systems.

Metro Entrance Facility (MEF)
-  The Metro Entrance Facility project was directed by Congress in the FY2000 Department of Defense Appropriations Act in response to recent security assessments that identified the need to improve the physical security of the Pentagon. These initiatives involved relocating the current bus station and removing direct entry into the Pentagon from the Metrorail station.

Phoenix -
The Phoenix Project rebuilt the section of the Pentagon that was most severely damaged in the September 11 disaster. The area of work extended from Corridor 4 to Corridor 5, C, D and E Rings, and represented roughly 400,000 square feet of the Pentagon. Half of this area rested in Wedge 1 of the Pentagon, and the other half of the area rested in Wedge 2. The Phoenix Project scope of work included rebuilding the core and shell of Wedge 1 and only the shell of Wedge 2.
