The Human Resources Directorate supports military personnel attached to the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) by providing the following services:

  • Managing the implementation of the military assignment system, service manpower, rated officer prioritization plan, military end strength and joint duty policy, and programs including the requisition, recruitment, and placement of military staff assigned to the Office of the Secretary Defense (OSD), WHS, Defense Agencies, and DoD Field Activities
  • Providing all personnel and pay support for assigned military staff
  • Managing the military awards program for OSD and its subordinate activities, all Defense Distinguished Service Medals processed worldwide, and military personnel accounts, to include ensuring compliance with the Joint Duty Assignment Management Information System and requirements for the Acquisition Corps
