Pentagon Mobility Assistance from Washington Headquarters Service

Individuals who need devices to assist them with a temporary condition lasting three months or less:

This may include such situations as broken bones and post-surgical restrictions expected to last a few weeks through 90 days.  Depending on the individual’s condition and job responsibilities, a motorized scooter may be assigned for temporary use.  All such requests require submission of a position description/summary of duties and a medical justification signed by a medical practitioner.  Requests may be submitted to the Labor and Management Employee Relations Division, Directorate for Human Resources at 571-372-3964.  If a request is approved, the scooter is issued by and returned to the Facilities Services Directorate's Standards and Compliance Division. This office can be reached by calling 703-695-8004.
The order of priority for assignment of a scooter is:

    • Federal employees of WHS-serviced organizations
    • Federal employees of other non-WHS-serviced organizations
    • Contractor employee

In addition, the frequency with which the employee’s job duties require movement around the Pentagon Reservation is a consideration in evaluating priority of assignment.
Individuals who need assistance on a long-term or permanent basis should contact their supervisor or the Labor and Management Employee Relations staff at 571-372-3964.  The individual’s organization may be responsible for funding the purchase or long term rental of assistive devices.   Contractor employees should initially contact their company for assistive devices.

Individuals who need assistive devices for one day use:

The primary assistive device for one day use is a wheelchair. The Pentagon Building Manager’s Office at 703-697-7351 should be contacted in advance, at least one day notice, to schedule use. No documentation is required and wheelchairs are assigned on a first come, first served basis.
