Minority Institute Faculty Fellows Program

The Office of the Secretary of Defense/Washington Headquarters Services (OSD/WHS) uses private sector contracts to recruit, place, and hire individuals for its faculty fellows program.

Minority Institute Faculty Fellows Program

Since 1987, OSD/WHS has offered a unique opportunity to faculty members of minority colleges and universities. The Historically Black Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions Faculty Fellowship (HBCU/MIFF) program offers bona fide faculty of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions, Tribal Colleges or universities and institutions that serve Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders opportunities to participate in challenging work experiences within OSD/WHS organizations. The program provides OSD with a cadre of highly skilled professionals who can accomplish short-term projects in their fields of expertise. Also, it gives faculty members an opportunity to share with students and other faculty and administrators, the skills and experiences they obtained. The HBCU/MIFF has proven to be extremely beneficial to the institutions and individuals involved. A private sector contractor now recruits and places the faculty fellows. If you're employed under the MIFF program, you are employees of a contractor awarded the contract and not the Federal government.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for this program are determined by the private sector contractor managing it. The contractor fills MIFF positions according to the needs of the customers of OSD/WHS. To qualify for consideration in the HBCU/MIFF program, you must be a bona fide full-time faculty member at an accredited college or university that has been designated as a HBCU, Hispanic Serving Institution or university and institutions that serve Asian/Americans and Pacific Islanders.

How to Apply

To obtain a faculty contract position with OSD/WHS, you must apply to the private sector contractor responsible for the management and staffing of the MIFF program. Applications are generally accepted by the contractor from November through the beginning of December. Email specialprograms@whs.mil for more specific information about the application process.
